Empowering Queensland with the Battery Booster Program

In response to soaring energy costs in recent years, the Queensland government has rolled out the Battery Booster program, providing rebates of up to $4000 per household for home battery systems. The initiative empowers average households to achieve energy independence, providing a tangible solution to alleviate the impact of rising energy expenses and assisting with the cost of living crisis.

The Battery Booster Program is a fantastic avenue for facilitating an affordable solution that may have otherwise seemed too expensive. We are happy that the Queensland government is able to provide this valuable support to the community.

What is the Queensland Battery Booster Program?

The Queensland Battery Booster Program seeks to promote the widespread adoption of battery systems in households across the state by providing cashback incentives for the installation of home batteries by approved installers. This initiative has been introduced in response to the growing importance of renewable energy sources and the increasing need for energy storage solutions amid soaring energy costs, making sustainable power more accessible to all.

How do you qualify?

To qualify for the Battery Booster Program, homeowners need to meet a few simple criteria. Firstly you must be the owner of a property in Queensland. Secondly, your property needs to have a solar PV system with a capacity of at least 5kW. Additionally, any battery system you install must be approved, meaning it must have a capacity of 6kWh or more and be listed on the approved battery system list. Lastly, installation of the battery system must be conducted by an installer approved on the program’s list.

What are the requirements?

While the program is designed to benefit all Queenslanders, there are income requirements to consider. Household income should not exceed $180,000 per year for the Standard Rebate, or $66,667 for the Low-income Rebate. After installation, a safety inspection will be carried out by a government-appointed inspector to sign off and finalise the claim.

What is the rebate?

The Battery Booster Program offers two tiers of rebates to eligible homeowners. If your household income falls below $180,000 annually, you could be eligible for a Standard Rebate of up to $3,000. Alternatively, if the highest earner in your household made $66,667 or less in the last financial year, you could qualify for a Low-income Rebate of up to $4,000.

How long is the rebate in place?

It’s important to note that the Battery Booster Program is a limited offer. By meeting all eligibility criteria and completing the application process, you could be well on your way to achieving energy independence and reducing your carbon footprint.

What is the application process?

The application process for the Battery Booster Program involves two stages:

  1. Conditional Approval: Homeowners must obtain a quote and apply for conditional approval from the program before committing to the purchase of the battery system.
  2. Rebate Approval: Once the conditionally approved system is installed and paid for, homeowners can submit their invoice to receive the rebate payment. However, they must demonstrate ongoing eligibility for the rebate.
