EV Unplugged: The New Norm

August 04, 2023

Following our first blog, EV Unplugged: Charging Ahead into the Future of Electric Vehicles, we gained valuable insights into the world of electric vehicles. Considering the rise of EVs in Australia, we delve even deeper into this latest trend, sparking further engaging discussions.

Will electric vehicles and chargers be in our daily lives?Β

The rise of electric vehicles is undeniable, and they are becoming an integral part of our future transportation. While some may not prioritise planning for this shift, delaying preparations will only make it harder to obtain the desired products and implement necessary installations. Being proactive and planning ahead will put you ahead of the curve. With the government’s target of making all new vehicle sales electric by 2036, electric vehicles will soon become the new norm before we realize it. Embracing this change now will ensure a smooth transition and a greener, more sustainable future.

The ownership of electric vehicles is rapidly gaining momentum in Queensland, as evidenced by the number of over 7500 new owners who have hit the roads in 2023 alone.

There are a number of supporting factors that will accelerate the adaption of EVs:

  • Infrastructure Development: The expansion of charging infrastructure is crucial to boost the adoption of electric vehicles. Significant progress in building a network of charging stations, including fast chargers, would be essential for EVs to become a convenient and viable transportation option.
  • Technological Advancements: Further developments in battery technology, like higher energy density and faster-charging capabilities, could increase the appeal of electric vehicles and alleviate range anxiety concerns.
  • Consumer Awareness: Widespread adoption of electric vehicles would depend on the level of awareness and understanding among consumers about their benefits, cost savings, and environmental advantages.
  • Government Policies: Supportive policies, incentives, and regulations from governments play a vital role in promoting electric vehicle usage and encouraging investment in charging infrastructure.
  • Automaker Commitment: Continued commitment from major automakers to produce more electric vehicle models and phase out internal combustion engines could significantly impact EV adoption.

Where can the battery be stored?

All battery units will have an IP rating which will determine if they can be mounted internally or externally on the property. Common sense must prevail when dealing with battery storage and EV charging solutions with 240v or 415V outlets. Of significant importance, they should be installed by a qualified professional who will determine the most suitable location. Safety is a priority and consideration should be made for the surrounding environment of electronic equipment, including EV chargers. If you store fuel cans or flammable liquids in the, ensure they are properly sealed and kept out of harm’s way, taking these precautions will help ensure a safe and secure environment.

Which charger is best?

When comparing EV charging options, the question of which manufacturer stands out from the rest is not always easy to determine. While Tesla is a market leader and offers excellent designs at competitive prices, it’s essential to explore other brands to find products that suit your specific requirements. Among the notable alternatives, Fronius (WattPilot) and ABB (TerraAC) stand out, providing excellent options for EV charging. Additionally, Schneider Electric and Senec offer integrated battery storage solutions and other switchgear components that work seamlessly with your home’s solar PV and switchgear installation. Each of these brands has its strengths, and the best choice depends on your individual needs and preferences. Tesla’s experience and market presence are noteworthy, but it’s worthwhile to consider the range of options available from Fronius, ABB, Schneider Electric, Senec, and others to ensure you find the most suitable products and offers for your EV charging requirements.
